The meeting with the CEO went very well yesterday, much better than I had expected (although there were no cookies...). There were about a dozen folks from various departments, none of them in upper management. He's a very down-to-earth person, not the lofty, starched-shirt, cuff-links kind of CEO that I'm used to. He spoke very straight forwardly, answered our questions, and also shared our opinions of what's broken in the company. I think we all left there with a much better understanding and respect for him. My only contact previously were through teleconference quarterly result meetings with the entire company. Now if he can get the rest of management between him and me to have similar meetings, then things will really start to change.

I hear ya on that, meetings suck and are totally pointless for the most part. They always claim to want to hear the "common man" and his ideas, then completely ignore all the suggestions. And if by some freak chance of fate they decide to use one of them, they had that idea in the works "long before" the meeting and take complete credit for it until they decide to try to improve on it and it goes all wrong, then it turns into what appears to have been a good sounding idea that they got from employee meetings but since the employees don't really "understand" how things actually work it's not really the worker's fault. Nice.
It seems like CEOs can often be glorified salespeople. They're good at telling people what they want to hear.
Hopefully he's follows through on the positive points from your discussion.
