I also have one new piece of gear that should help on race day. During a race of this length runners typically need to carry some form of nourishment, be it gels or other food. I used a small fanny pack which didn't really work too well. When the pack was positioned in back it kept wanting to rotate to the front, no matter how tight/loose I made it. When it was in the front it kept bobbing up and down, much to the dismay of my bladder. I recently found a nice little band that is more elastic, has space for storing gels on the sides, and a much smaller pouch. I'll test it when my training runs go longer than 12 miles, which is pretty soon.
As I mentioned in my last post, Nike has some really nice women's running clothes. In my opinion men's running clothes are too long and baggy. On hot days they really don't do much to keep one cool. Women's running clothes are form fitting and shorter. Its tough to combine crossdressing and running. I mean, unless one has a very feminine figure, it tough to hide a male body in a t-shirt and shorts. And a wig and makeup would certainly not be conducive.
So stealth crossdressing is an alternative - wearing women's running clothes that are androgynous or under men's clothes. I could probably get away with running a race in these or these shorts, but probably not in these. Maybe even these tights if another woman didn't show up in them. Tops are a bit trickier. This and this might be easy. This, this and this would not, although they could be worn as a base layer in the winter. I have worn a similar top to the first during night runs by myself. And don't get me started on running skirts. I love the look! I wish more women would run in them. However, I do love the look of a nice ass in short-shorts to run behind ;)
Lately I've been running in shorts and leg compression sleeves when the temperatures are above freezing. These are footless compression socks that run from above the ankle to under the knee. The compression is good for keeping cramps away and they are usually for wearing after a race. A lot of folks wear them when running instead of wearing pants or tights. Mine are just plain black. They do make them in other colors for women. These thigh-highs are pretty cool too.
