An American Heavy Metal Weekend

I heard that song on the radio the other day and its been stuck in my head. Do you know the name of the group sings it? Its kind of obscure, so I’d be surprised if you did without having to search for it on the web.

Race Report: It was awesome! I felt a whole lot better by yesterday. Even though I hadn’t run in a week, I figured I’d give it the old college try (that and the fact that I had pre-registered so I at least needed to pick up the t-shirt). It was a cross-country trail run in at a nearby state park. I’d been to the park before, but never to run. I’m glad I had no idea what was in store for me. Run, run, run, up some small hills, down some small hills, over tall grass, rocks, and tree roots. Nothing too tough.

Then a trail guide points to go up a hill. Up, up, up, we go. I see a guy 30 yrds in front of me stop running and start walking. I see that the trail crosses a road. I see that the trail keeps going up – and I can’t see the top of the hill. Argh! My thighs are starting to burn. I hear someone coming up from behind me. Gotta keep moving. Finally, I reach the top and enjoy some rest as I run down the other side of the hill.

The rest of the course was not as demonic as that hill. The girl that was behind me now caught up to me. I tried to run with her for the last half-mile but couldn’t keep up. (Little known fact: she and I have been running at about the same pace in a hand full of races this year, so I try to finish ahead of her.) I finally cross the finish line about 3 minutes past my usual 5K time. Everyone is complaining about that hill. Once I stopped running I noticed I was completely soaked in sweat. My mind was so focused on a) the big hill, and b) that girl’s ass, that I didn’t realize how hot it was last night.

Exercise like that always makes me horny. Once I got home, tho, I was so beat that I couldn’t act upon those feelings. Maybe today…

Sick Days

I woke up Saturday morning not in the best shape. After eating breakfast (yogurt, bagel, OJ) I started getting aches & pains in all of my joints, bloating in the GI tract, and a related unmentionable output. I spent the day on the couch in pain. I think it may be some sort of stomach flu, but I haven’t had a fever (or at least one that is noticeable). Didn’t miss much as it rained most of the day. I felt a little bit better on Sunday, enough to go to Mass and then mow the lawn. After that, then I started feeling like crap again. I managed to get to Whole Foods for organic yogurt and kefir in hopes of replenishing my intestinal bacteria, as well as some soup. Today, I feel a bit better, about 70%. I just hope I’m better in time for Wednesday’s 5K race after work, and then vacation next week.

Giddy as a Schoolgirl

That's what I become when I'm around very beautiful women. Even if its just for a moment, say at the bank or grocery store. Due to this, a 5K that I was set to run on Wednesday was cancelled as the police weren’t able to provide adequate traffic control for it. Bummer. I was all set to run a good race yesterday. They’re going to reschedule it. I just hope its not while I’m on vacation in a couple weeks. This year a bunch of the race organizers met and decided to have a county race series. The more races one runs, the better chance for winning a prize. If one enters a certain number of races this year, they’ll pay the entry fee for one race next year. I just checked the rankings. Of the 2,500 people who’ve run at least one of the five races in the series this year, there are about 50 that have run a majority of the races, me included. So my chances of winning some sort of prize may actually be pretty good.

Not much going on these days. Work has been busy and its been hot & rainy out there. As usual, I've been reading & discovering other blogs more than working on my own.

Running
I'm running in another 5K next week and I hope I can get two more runs in by then. So far this year I've been doing very well. My times are down a bit and I'm feeling better throughout the runs. I haven't placed in my age group yet, there's just too many 30-39 year olds in these races. If there's a plus side to turning 40, its that I might actually place in the 40-49 group.

Homebrewing
I brewed a 5-gallon batch of beer over the 4th of July weekend, a clone of Anchor's Steam beer. I mostly brew porters, so this foray into an ale is something new. I'll bottle it this weekend and should have drinkable results a month after that.

Cell phones
Three times in the last week I've entered a public restroom and found that one or more of the other users are talking on their cell phones while disposing of thier waste. Inconsiderate if you ask me. I mean, what does the person on the other end think when they hear the various restroom sounds? Does the person in the stall or standing at the urinal think they can't hear them?
